For solo and pre-recorded violins
Beginning with the ancient Eastern philosophical notion of an eternal river of invisible energy surrounding us and made audible in music and sound, River Entering explores a harmonic world based on the natural overtones of violin strings. Pre-recorded violin sounds are combined in layers with solo violin. The music arises from, and returns to the low G-string in a single movement with several internal parts, each based on the natural harmonics of a single string. It begins in ‘structured time’ and slowly moves out of it and into a series of shifting harmonic fields. All of the pre-recorded violin parts were performed by Nadia Francavilla, to whom River Entering is dedicated.
